The Significant Seven

The Dr. Katherine Y. Brown (KYB) Leadership Society advances purpose and scholastic opportunity by educating students on civic and social responsibility and deepening their ability to improve community life.

We are committed to educating youth on civic and social social responsibility through community engagement. The KYB Leadership Society enables students to develop domestic and global citizenship skills and forge effective community partnerships. Our mission is to support scholarship and service by inspiring and training students to be leaders within the community.

The Leadership Academy focuses on four core modules that offer extensive leadership training and international civic engagement, in addition to service projects throughout the community.

Seven young women from Davidson County were selected as the first of its class and include:

  • Sydney Y. K. Brown
    Sydney Brown is a founding member of the KYB Leadership Academy. She is in Cohort I
    (Class of 2016) also known as the Significant Seven. She will graduate from high school in 2018.
    She aspires to become a Neurosurgeon and Neurology Researcher.
  • Morgan Harvell
    Morgan Harvell is a founding member of the KYB Leadership Academy. She is in Cohort I
    (Class of 2016) also known as the Significant Seven. She will graduate from school in 2020. She
    aspires to become a Surgeon or a Psychiatrist.
  • Ashley Mimms
    Ashley Mimms is a founding member of the KYB Leadership Academy. She is in Cohort I
    (Class of 2016) also known as the Significant Seven. She will graduate from school in 2018. She
    aspires to become a Stylist, Makeup Artist, Model, and Fashion Designer.
  • Taylor Northington
    Taylor Northington is a founding member of the KYB Leadership Academy. She is in Cohort I
    (Class of 2016) also known as the Significant Seven. She will graduate from high school in 2018.
    She aspires to become a Mechanical Engineer.
  • Josephine Onyeme
    Josephine Onyeme is a founding member of the KYB Leadership Academy. She is in Cohort I
    (Class of 2016) also known as the Significant Seven. She will graduate in 2019. She aspires to
    become a Physical Therapist.
  • Jewell Windrow
    Jewell Windrow is a founding member of the KYB Leadership Academy. She is in Cohort I
    (Class of 2016) also known as the Significant Seven. She will graduate from high school in
    2019. She aspires to become a Pediatrician.
  • Ashlee Young
    Ashlee Young is a founding member of the KYB Leadership Academy. She is in Cohort I (Class
    of 2016) also known as the Significant Seven. She will graduate from school in 2018. She
    aspires to become a Radiologists or Forensic Pathologist

The Leadership Academy was developed by Dr. Katherine Y. Brown, founder and executive director of the RBW Group, to encourage, provide opportunities and teach young women in Middle Tennessee about the importance of developing leadership skills, giving back to the community and living a healthy life. The program begins in August and runs through May with graduation and new class inauguration in June.
